The digital controller utilizes a pre-programmed chip that is upgradeable as control improvements are developed. In addition, the digital controller and its related sensors can be retrofitted to almost all existing GARN® WHS units with minor alterations dating back to 1990. This controller is a significant improvement over the current timer controller that it replaces. The new digital controller was developed to perform the following functions:
- Eliminate requiring the GARN® WHS user to set the induced draft blower timer based on an estimate of fuel load size, wood species or estimated moisture content.
- Increase efficiency by eliminating blower operation beyond the termination of combustion.
- Provide a digital readout of flue gas and thermal storage temperatures.
- Provide a digital readout of the following additional temperatures: outdoor, hot water supply and hot water return.
- Terminate blower operation upon unexpected thermal storage water loss.
- Display the duration of the burn (hrs & minutes) following termination of combustion.
